Host: SCPBC, led my Mr. George Gehrig
Location: Anywhere in the South Central Plains Ecoregion (including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas).
The SCPBC is a triannual, four-day bioblitz modelled after the City Nature Challenge that spans the South Central Plains Ecoregion (including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas).
The SCPBCs are more than just a bioblitz: They are an integrated effort to address widespread “Biodiversity Blindness”, and to activate people, especially high school and college/university students, to learn about the ongoing biodiversity crisis, and care for the species that they share a larger landscape with.
Participation in this free bioblitz is easy. Simply follow these steps:
● Download the free iNaturalist app to your device.
● Set up an iNaturalist account (must be 13 years old):
● Take a photo of a WILD plant or animal anywhere in the jurisdiction (county/parish) between 10/16-19/26 and it will be automatically be added. If it’s being taken care of by people (captive/domesticated), or it’s been planted (cultivated), it’s not wild. Mark those as Captive/Cultivated. Each photo, or sound file, is a record called an “observation”. The observations can be made of living things, or evidence of living things (i.e., scat, tracks, feathers, etc.).
● Finish uploading your observations by Sunday November 1, 2026 to share with the iNaturalist community. All uploaded observations during that time frame will automatically appear on this project's page. Results will be announced on Wednesday November 4, 2026 and posted to the Facebook page and this overall umbrella project page:
