Rewilding Talk: Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves, Baton Rouge

Host: Louisiana Wild Society

Location: The Red Shoes, 2303 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70806, USA

What happens when we begin to see our yards, gardens, and green spaces not simply as something to maintain, but as places of connection, purpose, and possibility?

In uncertain and often overwhelming times, many of us are searching for meaningful ways to respond to the challenges facing our world. Rewilding our green spaces with native plants offers a small but powerful place to begin. As we restore habitat, welcome biodiversity, and reconnect with the natural rhythms of the place we call home, we may discover that the healing is not only happening around us, it is happening within us, too.

This engaging and reflective introduction to native plants explores both the practical and deeper why behind rewilding. Participants will learn how native plants support the unique ecology of South Louisiana while considering the ways tending the earth can cultivate hope, joy, belonging, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Together, we will explore what it means to become more deeply rooted in place and how our relationship with the natural world can become a meaningful practice of care—for the earth, our communities, and ourselves.

Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply curious about creating a more ecologically supportive space, this offering invites you to begin where you are, with what you have, and discover what becomes possible when we choose to grow in relationship with the world around us.

Facilitated by Erin Staub, Director of the Louisiana Wild Society, an inclusive women-led organization that believes in the importance of protecting and regenerating our planet through community engagement.
